  • It has been reported to the Help Desk that some people have received the following phishing email.

    This fake email was not sent by Illinois State University. The University will never ask for your password in this manner via email. If you receive this email, do not reply to it. Never send your password in email. For more info, see [1364] Recognizing "ILSTU TEAM" phishing scam emails.

    Important: If you replied with your password, you should immediately change your password via the ULID Password Change web page. If you are unable to change your password, you may reset it yourself using the Password Self-Reset web page. Or you may have your password reset in person with your University ID at the Help Desk office in Julian Hall 115.

    This is a sample of the phishing scam email the Help Desk received:
     

    Dear User,

    We wrote to you on the 1st of May 2008 advising that you change the password of your account in order to prevent any unauthorized account access following the network intrusion we previously encountered.

    we have found the vulnerability that caused this issue, and have instigated a System Wide Security Audit (SWSA) to improve and enhance our current security, in order to continue using our services you are required to update you account details below.

    To complete your account verification, you must reply to this email immediately and enter your account details below.

    Username: (**************)

    Password: (**************)

    Failure to do this will immediately render your account deactivated from our database.

    We apologize for the inconvenience that this will cause you during this period, but we trust you understand that our primary concern is for our customers and for the security of their data to ensure that our customers are totally secure
